Trump announces 'indirect' involvement in talks with Iran
Very important talks between Tehran and Washington on Iran's nuclear program are going to start in Geneva on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, US President Donald Trump said that he will be 'indirectly' involved in these talks. Trump believes that Iran is interested in reaching an agreement this time.
"I will be indirectly involved in these talks. These talks are going to be very important," Trump told reporters on the presidential plane 'Air Force One'.
Pressure to stop uranium enrichment
The talks were suspended before the US attack last June. Because Washington demanded that Iran completely stop enriching uranium on its soil. The US believes that this is the way Iran can develop nuclear weapons.
Trump said, "Instead of sending B-2 stealth bombers to destroy nuclear capabilities, we could have reached a deal. But we had to send those planes. I hope they will behave more rationally this time.’
On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with the head of the UN nuclear watchdog in Geneva on Monday. He wrote on social media that he had come to Geneva to reach a ‘fair and equitable agreement’.
However, Araghchi made it clear that ‘surrendering under threat is not on the table for negotiations.’
